In a template, users will now be able to provide "days from start" for each task in addition to duration. This will enable Workframe to calculate task dates based on a project's start or finish date when a draft project is created from a template. In addition, when a user edits a project start or end in a project draft, they will be prompted with three choices:

  1. Repopulate tasks based on the new start/finish date
  2. Change the project start/finish date only
  3. Or, cancel

Please note that only users with Company Admin or Frame Admin permissions can access the date automation feature.

How to set up a template for date automation:

  • Select open template, or create new template
  • Create Tasks
  • Enter “days from start” and duration to establish a timeline for your project.
  • If a task is 0 days from start, it will start on the project start date.
  • If a task is 5 days from start, it will start 5 days after the project start date.
  • If a task is 5 days from start, and has a duration of 2 days, it will start 5 days after the project start date, and end 2 days after the task start date.
  • You can review your work by clicking on the Timeline view.
  • While in the Timeline view, you can click on a task bar to open the edit task modal and adjust the tasks duration and/or “days from start”.

Note: When you create a project from a template, Workframe cannot populate start or finish dates for tasks that do not have a “days from start” value.

How to use date automation (from a template):

  • Select Add new from template from your All Projects or Portfolio page
  • A Project settings window will appear.
  • Default will be set to Skip Weekends, or you can toggle to include Saturday and Sunday as working days.
  • Working days will prevent start and finish dates from landing on a Saturday or Sunday.
  • Specify a start or finish date for your projects. These dates can be modified at any time.
  • You will be taken into a project draft mode. Make sure to enter the name of your project.
  • If your template included at least one task with days from start or duration then:
  • Within the Details tab your Start and Finish date will be populated.
  • Within the Tasks tab task dates will be populated.
  • Adjusting project dates before publishing allows you to repopulate task dates based on a new project date.
  • In the Details tab, you can change the Project Start or Finish date and will be prompted with the following message: Adjust project dates?
  • Select Cancel, Repopulate task dates, or Update project finish date only.
  • Cancel: No changes to your project start or finish date
  • Repopulate task dates: All task dates are repopulated based on the new project start or finish date you have provided
  • Update project finish date only: Changes the project start or finish date only

How to use date automation (without a template):

  • Select Add new project
  • A Project settings window will appear.
  • Default will be set to Skip Weekends, or you can toggle to include Saturday and Sunday as working days.
  • Working days will prevent start and finish dates from landing on a Saturday or Sunday.
  • You will be taken into a project draft mode. Make sure to enter the name of your project.
  • Add tasks to your project in the Tasks tab
  • Add project start and finish date to your project in the Details tab
  • Once your project has established a start and finish date, you can repopulate task dates by editing the project start or finish date. Editing a project start or finish date will prompt the following message: Adjust project dates?
  • Select Cancel, Repopulate task dates, or Update project finish date only.
  • Cancel: No changes to your project start or finish date
  • Repopulate task dates: All task dates are repopulated based on the new project start or finish date you have provided
  • Update project finish date only: Changes the project start or finish date only
  • When you are ready, publish your project
  • You may still edit the start or finish date in a project, but you will not have the option to repopulate dates based on the new start or finish date.
